My fella has said he wants to go on record predicting the Houston Texans will make it to the Super Bowl this year. He says, while they are masters of nothing, they have an amazing all-around team that he thinks is going all the way.
I’ll consider this my proof on February 3rd if he was right or not.
(And, for the record, he’s a Saints fan, not a Texans fan so this isn’t just a bandwagon prediction.)
The NHL has unveiled the new Winnipeg Jets logo.
I like it! Reminds me of my dad’s airforce insignia growing up. What do you think?
I play roller derby. Initially it was because I’d moved to a new city, I’d seen the TV show “Rollergirls” (which incidentally, is actually a pretty horrible, non-realistic show in retrospect) and it seemed like fun way to meet new friends. I was terrified that these girls would be way cooler and tougher than I was and I wouldn’t be worthy of hanging out with them. So, it was a pleasant surprise to find the ladies really warm and welcoming, more than willing to teach you how to skate, and that derby itself was bloody good exercise!
Now, I HATE cardio. It’s a quirk of mine. I absolutely love weight lifting, I could do yoga for years, but I despise anything that makes me sweat…except roller derby. For some reason, at the end of practice or a bout, when I’m drenched with sweat, covered in new and old bruises and even my core hurts I’ve been pushing myself so hard, it’s the best feeling ever! Even when I’m bogged down with work and life and the whole drive to our practice space I’m thinking I’m just going to have to quit derby because things are just too busy, the second I put on my skates I realize I can’t quit. Not only do I love derby, it’s the one thing that makes me look forward to exercising!
Remember being a kid, how going for a bike ride was just FUN, not exercise? How when your mom kicked you out of the house for the day, that you and your friends could disappear into the woods, hiking and climbing all day? How Red Rover on the playground was more about the winning and less about the running around for 45 minutes? This is what roller derby is to me. It’s not exercising, it’s playing.
Imagine being able to squeeze in all the bike rides, hikes and, yes, roller skates we wanted to take. If I could just get a bit more fun into my life, I bet I could drop 10 pounds. Or maybe just care less what my weight is because I’m too busy out enjoying myself!
The Saints win the Superbowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
